Patriots Off-Season Thoughts (Pt 2)

With the off season upon us I want to take some time to take a look at possible free agents for the Patriots to take a look at. Now most of this will depend on who the Patriots decide to re-sign and who to let go, but thats the fun of it.

Looking to the running back position we know LeGarrette Blount’s future is questionable. He stated that he wanted to “test free agency” according to The Fantasy Pros. Granted this was prior to the conference round of the playoffs, so he may have a different opinion on the situation now. But looking forward Eddie Lacy is going to be a free agent come March 9th. Lacy is a 234 pound tank who I would love to have on this team. He is the definition of a bruising back who could replace Blount of push comes to shove.

At the tight end position it seems as if Bennett may not be re-signing here, which breaks my heart, and I know many other fans dislike that as well. There is a key tight end who is going to be a free agent in March, that man’s name is Vernon Davis. The 33 year old is going to become available and if the Patriots chose to let Bennett go they should definitely pursue Davis. Like I mentioned in a previous blog the Patriots LOVE those two tight end sets and having two good tight ends would be great for us (Also go read that blog, not sure which one it was but read it anyway).

As for the line backer position with the Patriots adding Shea McClellin and Kyle Van Noy and more than likely resigning Hightower we should be all set at that position. But if for some reason one of those players don’t work out you can expect the Pats to sign line backer Zach Brown. Brown played his best year for the Bills last year and you bet your ass, under Matt Patricia, you would see the best of his. abilities for the Patriots

Revis island? More Like Alcatraz Island

“Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis is facing charges of “robbery, terroristic threats, conspiracy and aggravated assault” after being involved in an altercation on Pittsburgh’s South Side early Sunday morning, Pittsburgh police said in a statement Thursday evening,” Kimberley A. Martin reports.

Please tell me this is a joke. First of all, Revis signed a $70-million deal ($39 million guaranteed) in March 2015 to return to the Jets. So you make all that money, and you decide to go out and be dumb? Now of course we’ll learn much more about this story in the upcoming days but what a fucking idiot.

So here is what we have so far. Allegedly some 21-year-old saw Revis, asked if it was him, and recorded the whole thing. Revis got pretty pissed and tossed this kid’s cellphone in the road in an attempt to delete the video. Of course then a fight ensued and the rest is history. Obviously there are ten different stories and a bunch of different witnesses and all that but we will see what happens shortly.Where the “terroristic threats” came in? I can’t tell yet.

In 2014, Revis was with the patriots and he actually had a pretty good season as much so where most of Pats nation were confused (myself included) when the team didn’t resign him. But Bill Belichick knows best and look at this past season 5 pass deflections and 1 interception. People where questioning whether or not he would even return and play in 2017. I think it is safe to say that this put the nail in his coffin and his days of football are behind him.

2017 Patriots Off-Season Thoughts (PT 1)

Even though the Patriots won the Super Bowl that doesn’t mean that this offseason will be easy. With many players at the end of their contracts we will soon find out what the team will decide to do moving forward to the 2017.

Dont’a Hightower – In my opinion I feel like Hightower should be one of our two defensive priorities this spring. Hightower is one of our defensive captains (Devin Mccourty is the other) and really knows how rally up the defensive backs and the boys on the line. As someone who has been on the team since he was drafted I can’t see him wanting to go anywhere else and I can see the Patriots giving him the franchise tag and sticking around.

•Malcom Butler – Butler is on the top of my list for players I want to come back. Before the pick in Super Bowl 49 nobody knew who this guy was. And most people don’t even realize that he came in to that game earlier in the second half to replace Kyle Arrington. And if it wasn’t for Butler’s awareness then Kearse could have easily got up and ran that ball in for a touchdown. Not to mention he’s easily become a top 10 corner in the NFL. You still him on OBJ, or Antonio Brown and he has no problem with it, He completely shuts them down. We will resign Butler without a doubt.

•Logan Ryan – The first half of the 2016 season it seemed as if Logan was getting burned on every route he was covering. Come late in the season and the playoffs he really started holding is own. I was at the point where I was even confident watching him play corner.

•Chris Long – Chris Long is someone that I can see us resigning if the price is right. He was definitely good last year and I would love to see him be a part of this defense again. Long played for the Rams since he was drafted and 2008 and I could only assume that he enjoys playing for a team that actually wins games. I could see him taking a minor pay cut to stay where he is happy.
•Martellus Bennett – Good ol’ Marty. I want to keep Marty around just for his interviews alone. This guy is absolutely hysterical, not only that but he is a monster out on the field. The Patriots love their two tight end sets and he is perfect for those. It is apparent that Gronk is not the most reliable tight end so it is nice to have someone how is trust worthy as a target and someone who is good at the block. Based on some of his recent press conference it is easy to infer that he may not be returning. My hopes are for talks to continue and maybe we can keep Marty and the Imagination Station here in New England.

•James Develin – Develin has been an under rated player for the Patriots since he came to the team in 2012. More of a blocking fullback but will run if he needs to. With the news breaking that the Patriots signed FB Glenn Gronkowski that could mean that the team does not have plans to resign James Develin. But as well all know the Patriots organization is a little unpredictable so we will have to see.

•Sebastian Vollmer – Another player that has spent his whole career as a Patriot. Granted he was sidelined with injuries for a few separate seasons he is still a valuable part of our offense line and I am sure that Dante Scarnecchia would love to have him as a part of his offensive line.

•LeGarrette Blount – A report came out a month or go saying that Blount was considering testing out free agency. After receiving his second Super Bowl ring and leading the NFL in rushing touchdowns he may decide to stay. Personally I would love to have Blount stay on the team. Having both Blount and White in the backfield is a great combination to have and our running game can definitely benefit from it.

Blitz For Six

“ESPN’s Darren Rovell reported the team last week – just days after winning their fifth Super Bowl title – filed to trademark the “Blitz For Six” phrase as the focus now turns to winning a sixth title next season.”

HOLY SHIT. This is probably one of the biggest power moves I have ever seen. This team is pretty serious about the “No days off” type montra. They’re putting the entire league on notice letting them know that its all eyes towards Minneapolis. Confidence is key, and I am very confident that we will be able to repeat. I bet that every other team is shaking in their boots right now.

Now, yes, I am a HUGE Patriots fan. But I am a real enough fan to know when things are going south. I’m not the type of fan that says “Patriots by 100 bro” every week. Looking forward to next season, (now obviously  we have to see what free agency and the draft bring) I don’t see any team in the AFC giving us much trouble. I would love to see a healthy Raiders team come into Gillette for an AFC championship game, its gonna be one hell of a game in Mexico City.

On the NFC side, we’re going to be playing the Falcons, Panthers, Saints, and Bucs next season. All games with good quarterbacks (one up and coming.) This offseason is going to be real important on resigning guys like Hightower and Butler. Hightower has been our defensive savior in the last two Super Bowls and Butler is easily our number one corner. Yeah Logan Ryan was good the second half of the season, but that first half? People were calling for his head.

Might as well book my plane ticket and hotel for Minneapolis for next February cause you bet your ass we’ll be there.

Super Bowl LI

tom-bradySeven days ago the world witnessed the greatest game of football ever played. Brady and his bunch came back from being down 28-3 to win their fifth Super Bowl. (Or do I have to say “big game” cause the NFL is a bunch of greedy assholes (Looking at you Goodell) might get a cease and desist letter in the mail.) Although they have better things to do then read this, and yes I did put parenthesis in a parenthesis, never said I was an English major here.

Leading up to the game nobody thought the Falcons had a chance. Now, I am a die hard Patriots fan, but I mean the Falcons did make it to the Super Bowl after all. For some reason once the birds got that first touch down, I just knew it was going to be one of “those” games. It was the same way I had felt when we got that intentional grounding in the end zone in Super Bowl 46. Going into the half, down 21-3, I was too pissed to even acknowledge that Lady Gaga jumped off the fucking roof of NRG.

I knew it would take a miracle to come back from that, but when Coleman made it 28-3, I thought this game was just about over. I mean I was at the point where I was laughing like Walter White was when he saw all of his money was gone and Gus Fring was coming to kill him – I knew we were FUCKED. But the dark lord, Bill Belichick, wasn’t done yet. The next drive we scored and Ghost missed the extra point. Then we had that horrible “onside kick” attempt and I was just over it. Told myself that I couldn’t go on social media for a week because all I would see were those stupid crying Jordan memes. Which honestly were funny for a month or so now they’re WAY too over used. (But thats a conversation for another blog.)

3rd and 1 halfway through the fourth and you’re throwing the ball? Kyle Shanahan, what the fuck are you thinking? Once I saw Dont’a Hightower line up on the outside on the line, I looked at my girlfriend and said “Dont’a is gonna blitz and get a strip sack here.” I’m not often right on things, but I knew right there that we were gonna win this game. At that point I knew the Falcons didn’t stand a chance. You’re going up against the best quarterback to ever live and he’s pissed off in that matter, their defense was terrified.

I do have to give it up to Julio Jones, that man deserves 99 SPEC catch on Madden. I mean no matter what we did or who we matched him up with he was going to catch ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. That sideline catch? I mean okay Micheal Jackson. But honestly, why aren’t you running the ball? I want to become a reporter in San Fran now just so I could ask Shanahan every week ,”Why didn’t you run the ball in Super Bowl 51?” That next drive we finally had a “crazy super bowl catch” go our way. I see that David Tyree catch in my nightmares for fucks sake. I have watched the Edelman catch more times than I want to admit, but seriously. How did he catch that ball? Let’s see you do that Julio.

Going into overtime winning the coin toss I was trying to pre-order my Super Bowl champions shirt but NFL shop just wasn’t having it. If someone told me that James White would be the Super Bowl hero a week before, I would have laughed in their face. But thats Bill for ya. I mean, remember Jonas Grey? I would bet Tom Brady on a 2 minute drill 11 times out of 10. Tom getting the ball to start overtime as hot as he was, Ryan should’ve made his way to the locker room to get a head start on taking his cleats off.

Being 22 years old and seeing the same amount of Super Bowl wins as my father is unbelievable. This one was definitely the sweetest. Watching Goodell look like a deer in the headlights handing that trophy over was the most satisfying thing ever. They probably heard that booing in Mexico. And the next morning having Goodell hand over the MVP trophy to Brady was like watching a band geek try and talk to the head cheerleader. He was terrified.

Tom Brady and Bill Belichick will go down as the greatest Coach/QB combo in history. And I cannot wait to tell my kids stories of how I watched the whole thing happen.

Fuck you Goodell.

Whats up everyone. If you happen to stumble upon this page and are reading anything on here I am so sorry, cause this is a bunch of shit. A collection of sports takes, drunk thoughts, and opinions. Born and raised in Massachusetts and a huge Boston sports guy. And no, I don’t say “Bahston” that’s some stupid tourist shit right there. Football is my favorite sport so expect to see more football topics on here then anything.
